NewsEvents / Paddaquasiz Newborn Protection Ceremony

Newest Thunder Clan Member Welcomed
October 2009

The newest member of the ACQTC Thunder Clan was officially welcomed into the Long Water Land Sachemdom on Sunday, October 4th, 2009, at the ACQTC Maweomi and Festival at Hammonassett State Park on the shore of Long Island Sound where it converges with East River.

On that day, Kirouan Paddaquahum, Quinnipiac Medicine Chief, conducted the Newborn Baby Protection Ceremony of the Five Elements (Fire, Earth, Air, Water and Spirit). Shalini Squayo-Pirressiwa (Red Raven), Thunder Clan member of the Warrawangkong Band at Esopus in the Shawangunk Mountains of New York State, requested this ceremony for her new baby boy Rishi Skadone. Her baby was anointed with these five sacred elements and given the traditional name of PADDAQUASIZ or “Little Thunder Boy”. He is pictured below sleeping very peacefully with Mama Thunder Cat providing companionship.

No other tribal nation in CT knows or performs the proper ceremonies to honor the newborn. ACQTC does, and performs all traditional ceremonies.
